Zaragoza, SPAIN 2006
Wait!!!.. do you see what I see??... YES!.YES!!.. that right!!. its really Shakira!!.. and man, her HIPS DON'T LIE!.... this was the launch of her "Oral Fixation" world tour that started in the historical city of Zaragoza, Spain. (its pronounced "with tongue sticking out"-zha-ra-go-zha!).. I went there with my sister Eva, who was the sole winner of the MTV-shakira contest in Malaysia. She wrote a slogan and won. I wish she wins all the time -man!!.. haha. Gosh, it was my first time in Europe, my-my, it is such a beautiful place.
Zaragoza, is much like our historical city of Malacca where 'it' all started. The structures and the buildings are so much like those we see in Malacca but greater in splendour of course. It is really mind-blowing that in the past people actually travelled across the seven seas to this other side of the world (asia-pacific) to evangelize and seek new grounds...even when their homeland was so much more ahead in terms of culture, civilization and technology... it's really mind-blowing.
The highlight besides the shopping and beautiful people :().. was of course Shakira's concert. It was a full dress rehearsal held at an open-air car park-hanger area.. huge place.. about 5 acres I think (the actual concert was the day after). The best thing was we were the only group present!!. well about 30 of us... winner's of the MTV-Shakira contest from all around the world, no kidding!. We met people from Portugal, Brazil, Turkey, Spain, Holland, Finland, Iceland, Australia, Japan, Thailand, England.. gosh!. just so many.
So apart from being invited for this exclusive event, I managed to see how things are done at the Sound desk and had a little glimpse of the activity backstage. It was amazing!!.. checkout the pictures for yourself!. finally the moment we've all been waiting for came .. we got to see Shakira in person! I was not really a fan of hers till I met her. She really knows what she's doing, and it was real talent and hard work that got her where she is now. She has also done so much for her country (Colombia) that she's now a global icon and is honoured in her homeland too. Talk about influence man!
I wish we could've stayed a few more days after that night. It felt like a dream at first. These pictures (there's so many more alright!) are proof that it was really a reality.
God did grant me the desire of my heart to see the world after all. I'm Grateful.

China 2005
Giving & receiving is one of the most rewarding things in life. I had thought that running a music school was well and enough for me till I was invited or you may say "sought-after".. cheh-wa! to be involved in a Praise & Worship Conference. The invitation was to take on the role as a session Bass and Guitar player for Chuck Hong, a famous Taiwanese christian artiste who is also a songwriter. The conference was held in CHINA! It was my first time travelling out of South East Asia and I was so exited. Little did I know that long distance flights could be quite a challenge. Nevertheless, we had a great time conducting music workshops in the day and leading P&W in the evenings. There were about 200 people throughout the entire conference.
The journey was from KL --> Singapore --> Hong Kong ---> Guong Zhou and we travelled by car to our destination as well (can't remember how long it took us to reach exactly but .. it was really long)..was really exhausted by the time we reached there. The first 3 pictures include my fellow musicians from KL and Taiwan :-(). Chuck is seated in the middle in the 1st picture.
It's really funny that a "banana chinese" like me could teach music in China. Well it dquite tough at first but by being determined, 'thick-skin' (I didn't mind being teased) and with the help of some sign language (yeah sign language!, I had to basicaly point to order food and stuff) it was pretty alright...sign-language was really useful.. ha ha!!
People were very friendly and hospitable. They really made sure that I was comfortable all the time. Of course nothing rocks harder than the FOOD!! Home-cooked chinese food all the way man!.. I think I ate lots of vegetables, probably more than what I had had in my lifetime during those 10 days.. gorgeous! and my mandarin improved tremendously *I guess*
Then we spent the rest of our spare time sightseeing: mountains, valleys, streams, fields.. my goodness, the scenery was breathtaking especially when we visited the mountains. It was summer time, perfect time for going outdoors.
I came home a new person. New chapters in life to write about and I really thank God for the oportunity that came. I learnt that passion for God's renown connects and go beyond any culture and age group. I was truly touched.
"May the people who know their God do great exploits"
Meant To Live
If i remember correctly, Meant To Live was in 2oo5. it was one of my best YC Camp ever. Well, it was not that I sang so well or anything but it was the Raj's last camp and I felt that it was time for us to stand up on ourselves and move on. It was such an emo-camp that the crowd nearly spoiled the song we wrote for Un. Mike & At Chiew Har (kids included ya).. haha!!.. so yea!..
wish i had more pictures from this camp...
"We were meant to live for so much more"!
Mighty Music
Some of you might know that I used to run a music school from 2004 till 2005. What inspired me?.. well, do ask me when you see me, he he!.
The School was one of the most amazing thing that happened to me. I didn't realise that I had a passion for teaching until I started doing it. The school actually grew from 13 to 88 students in just 3 months!!.. Wow!.. talk about growth. I taught 45 students weekly those days. Don't know if i can ever do it again hahah!!.. well, here are some of the students from those days. As you can see, they are always smiling :-).. I guess they were very happy ya?.. ha ha... I'm not too sure if I can recognize some of them now, especially the younger kids. So do say Hi!, if you're one of them in the picture.
